KRU-ZNN | My curiosity as to the WHY there is such a Noticeable Increase in Horsepower since the SSS Muffler installation, Curiosity led me to perform the first known "Prowler Muffler Autopsy." The attached pictures explain why there is so much back pressure with the OEM Muffler. The two inlet pipes force the exhaust against a steel partition and then finds its way into a single perforated tube for the journey through the muffler. They exit the chamber against another steel baffle plate and exit into dual exhaust pipes. The SSS Muffler has two straight through pipes with no baffle plates to hinder gas passage, resulting in no backpressure, easier engine breathing and an increase in horsepower.

BeWare | Very very interesting I sure would like to see a Borla muffler autopsy. ------------------ |
Chromer | I'm not the sqeamish type, but these "autopsy" photos were very disturbing. |
JUST JP | Chromer, That was funny.KRU-ZNN, Thanks for letting us see what it looks like inside. ------------------ 2000 Black Kat "self-proclaimed" poorest Prowler owner mods: 1) ceramic pads 2) Bill's 2.1 intake with EGR bypass 3) "cracked ice" shimmers 4)$16 "chromed" grill :) 5) 37,000+ (s)miles

lavka | Cool Dude. Very interesting. Thanks. Are you gonna saw your transmission in half next? Just kidding... ------------------

YELLER CAT | THANKS, Dr. Ted... seems like the OEM muffler is in fact just a big single exhaust system. It could be argued that the SSS is just a single exhaust too as we mix both cylinder banks, however it is a straight through design unlike the OEM with the baffles. Additionally @ higher RPMs most of the extreme exhaust pressure takes the path of least resistance and goes straight through from the respective cylinder banks. Regardless, the SSS delivers the sound and performance most Cat Owners just LOVE. THANKS again, Jay ------------------ |
jd2ksilver | UMMMMMMMMMMMMMM,,,,,,,,, ah what the hell, How about a side by side comparison and open up one of the SSS mufflers?? From what little I know, back pressure when it gets to the muffler is of little issue. I have yet to hear one. ------------------ See me WAX a Roush See me WAX a Cobra CAR & DRIVER of The Month

YELLER CAT | I will post some pictures of the SSS Prowler muffler during the assembly stages and you can see what really goes into making this hand-crafted muffler... as soon as we can take the time to do so. Current orders leave little time for anything but building them, 10 units per week! THANKS, Jay ------------------ |
BeWare | JD not to be sarcastic and I don't know that much about it either. But if the flow in the muffler has little effect then why do some mufflers provide better performance figures than others on the Dyno. Back pressure at the muffler has to have some effect. Big or small effect who knows. ------------------ |
fixumm | Hay doc I got a pain in my side but I will go some where else your cuts are not to straight lol poor muffler I think we have a malpractice suite here fixumm ------------------

Your not being Sarcastic Rich, good question. But even the same exact motor, same exhaust, etc, will display variations of torque and hp between dyno runs. I've yet to see a exhaust of any significant increase that would convince me otherwise. Belive me, for 18 months I tried several different concepts. IMO it all comes down to what sound you prefer. And like I said, it's just my opinion.

BeWare | JD Yeah the sound was the main reason I went to the Borla. If the SSS sounds better I will switch to it. I was going to go with glass packs but they were a little too loud. This message has been edited by BeWare on 05-03-2002 at 06:11 PM |
GenoTex | k... perhaps I've said it too many times already, but tonight was just one more reason I have come to LOVE my SSS! Wife and I were cruisin' town, and headin' home out to the country, a set of headlights hugging close to the Kat. As we made a turn onto the final beautiful straight road (about 4 miles long) out in the country, I pulled aside (rather abruptly) into a little 'turnout' that is there (for those that Know it's there, LOL) and watched as the headlights behind me became taillights in front... It was a newer Jag. Sweet. As we met the night sky in front of us, stars bright in the west, we both teasingly opened em up a lil at a time, his exhaust sounding sweet from in front, but mine sounding sweet Smooth AND Sassy! As he opened it up more and more, I was hugging tight with him the entire way That lil ol 6 was hot on that 12 banger's Bu** But the beautiful sounds filling the night just keep me grinning and grinning and grinning. Did I say "Thanks Jay" ?
Best bang for the buck, by far! JMO of course ------------------ Livin' for the next Cruise :) Features: Flaps (Untrimmed) SSS Exhaust Etched Glass decals(side windows and taillights) Bumper Shimmers Black Grill Trim Beautiful Wife |
YELLER CAT | See, I told you sooooooo... just like I promised. You just can't tell anyone what Sweet, Smooth & SASSY means until they press the loud pedal against the firewall and experience the sound... the adrenaline rush! And the tunnel / overpass experience in 2nd gear between 3200 - 4500 RPM is awesome... simply awesome, unless you are a pigeon!!! Remember the first day you drove your Prowler... it is that feeling all over again and a whole lot more! THANKS for your comments and support. Sincerely, Jay ------------------ |
